Nestling

The Nestling Program is available for children 2.5 to 3 years of age who wish to attend school three days a week. Children who wish to attend school five mornings a week and are almost potty trained are automatically enrolled as Nestlings.  The class begins at 8:30 and ends at 11:30 a.m.  Four year olds who wish to attend three days a week may enroll on a space available basis.

The classroom provides activities that teach independence through the care of oneself and the environment such as dressing, hand washing, plant watering, and tucking in a chair. Children practice using their fine and large muscles, increasing coordination and balance, which results in greater independence and self-confidence.

Social and linguistic experiences are very important as children develop communication skills and the ability to work together in a classroom environment. They expand their vocabulary and learn to use words to express needs and desires. Daily reading, pre-writing, music, rhythm, and movement experiences are provided. The children’s growth in language development fosters beginning social skills such as cooperation, taking turns, and establishing boundaries.

Everything in the classroom has its own place and the children develop a sense of order by choosing activities from the shelves, working with them and replacing them when they are done. Children form fundamental concepts through experimenting with and manipulating objects. They practice pouring, spooning, and washing items; learn about colors, sizes, shapes, textures, and dimension. Counting, problem solving and puzzles are introduced and a variety of art materials is always available. Children explore science by learning about plants, animals, and their world. The Nestling Program provides structure and organization for successful pre-academic learning.
